87 Survivors to Receive Transformative Scar-Coverage Tattoos at Sixth Annual Event This October

Denver, Colo. – September 24 , 2018 – Mastectomy tattoo organization P.ink announced its sixth annual “P.ink Day” to take place in 15 cities across the U.S. and Canada on various dates throughout October and November. This year, 87 talented artists will volunteer their time and talent to ink mastectomy tattoos for 87 remarkable breast cancer survivors, by far the largest group to participate in the event’s history.

After a mastectomy, many breast cancer survivors are left with scars and often, no nipples. This is a problem that reconstructive surgery cannot always solve. In response to this challenge, P.ink (Personal Ink) is a grassroots movement dedicated to educating breast cancer survivors about mastectomy tattoos as an alternative healing option and connecting survivors with experienced tattoo artists who can help. Since the first event in 2013, P.ink Day has helped nearly 300 women heal with ink.

“This is a cultural tipping point,” said Noel Franus, Founder, P.ink. “We launched P.ink Day six years ago because nobody was talking about this. Many events and nearly 300 survivors later, it’s clear that survivors appreciate more options. I couldn’t be prouder for our survivors who have boldly reclaimed some of what breast cancer stole.”

Each of the 15 events this year are overseen by local leaders, many of whom were tattoo recipients or tattoo artists at a previous P.ink Day. Local leaders help facilitate this one-of-a kind experience by connecting survivors with experienced artists.

P.ink (pronounced “Pea-ink,” short for Personal Ink) believes breast cancer doesn’t have to leave the last mark—so the organization connects survivors with artists who can help them move on.

The organization has three areas of focus:

  1. Artist directory: P.ink has curated Pinterest boards featuring mastectomy tattoo ideas and artists experienced with mastectomies. http://pinterest.com/personalink. These artists are available for individual hire at any time.
  2. P.ink Day: P.ink’s annual all-volunteer effort to connect tattoo artists and survivors for a no-cost day of healing with tattoos.
  3. P.ink Fund: in addition to helping survivors on P.ink Day, P.ink accepts donations year-round through the P.ink Fund to pay for the tattoos of survivors who reach out to the organization on a first-come, first-served basis. The tattoos are performed by a small network of pre-screened artists from around North America. Donations to the P.ink Fund are managed via Fractured Atlas, a 501 (c)(3) charity.
